STREET LITE - TAKING IT TO THE STREETS WITH GREG MARSDEN

We’ve transformed the small corner of our showroom/studio at 416 Heidelberg Road, Fairfield into a temporary street galley space.

We’ll be showcasing various light art and light-inspired pieces over the coming months. Our premiere lite version of a light exhibition is a series appropriately called ‘Street Lite’.

THE ARTIST

The first collection we are showcasing is of Sydney street photographer Greg Marsden. Greg’s work is a fitting choice for us, because it often explores the relationship between his subjects and light. Greg’s been documenting the streets of Sydney for a few years now, and his personal story is just as fascinating as his work itself.

A former US serviceman, Greg travelled the world and found himself in Australia, where he developed a passion for capturing everyday scenes – from the emotively-mundane to the insane – through street photography.

No doubt his background was an influence in not only his bold and candid approach to capturing some beautiful (and sometimes confronting) imagery, but also his incredible observations.

illumination of the space and work

We looked at the illumination space as a whole entity, and how it could complement the collection itself. So, we painted the surrounding area to emphasise the striking colours in the imagery.

We produced an ambience-designed light box, measuring 240cm x 120 cm. It features Tridonic slimline LED panels and LED Strip perimeter to accentuate the background, and provide dynamic depth.

To light the non-light box photography, we used a combination of ten-degree halogen and LED three circuit track spots, with low ultraviolet lamps to protect the image. We also used RAAT framing spots to illuminate around the borders of the artwork.

So, if you’re cruising down Hiedelberg Road, make sure to take a peek!
